Yasuzo Masumura (1957) 7,5/10
Zur damaligen Zeit galt dieser zahme und heute fast naiv unschuldig wirkende Film als Provokation, ein Escape from social constraints and film craft. The time has left no trace on this work, but still remain some nice camera angles and the tenderness, the tentative attraction, the two young lovers are liable in the heart of today's audience. A beautiful movie.
NANJING! NANJING!

be awfully nice in black and white images, Lu Chuan, the greatest crime der japanisch kaiserlichen Armee nachstellen, das Massaker des Jahreswechsels 1937/1938 in Nanjing. Ein Film der ihm weder in China, noch in Japan viele Freunde gemacht hat.

LOVE LETTER
Shunji Iwai (1995) 9/10
Manche Tipps, besonders die von schneesüchtigen Bloggern , erweisen sich als goldrichtig. So beschaffte I look at the English subtitled Korean DVD of this film by Shunji Iwai. LOVE LETTER is one of the films for which the word "kitsch" was invented seems, is exactly the thing it would have to dreading about 10 years ago. But after I removed my aversion to the emotional film piece by piece, this has changed to happiness. Iwai's film is submerged in snow sentimental dream, which despite beautifully filmed, radiating in a wintry cold frozen landscapes and roads, a cozy warmth. The accidental death of a young man crashed a number of people, his friends and family in deep mourning. Two years later, the Fiancee not get over the loss. After a ceremony reminiscent of the dead visited the young woman and finds his mother in an old yearbook, the postal address of his home town. She writes a letter to the address, without hope for a response. But quite surprisingly it receives response from a young woman who happened to be the same first and last name has as her fiance. It turns out that she has with him even visited the school together. A lively correspondence followed, which helps all parties to arrange her warped soul lives. LOVE LETTERS is very big emotional film, a melancholy winter journey into the heart of human grief. While my favorite remains Yentown Iwai, a im Vergleich zur glatt polierten Oberfläche dieses Filmes eher ungeschliffener Diamant, aber LOVE LETTERS folgt schon dicht dahinter.
BELLADONNA
Eiichi Yamamoto (1973) 8/10
Jeanne, ein junges Bauernmädchen, wird in ihrer Hochzeitsnacht von ihrem Lehnsherren vergewaltigt. Körperlich und seelisch zerstört, entschlüpft ihr der Wunsch nach Vergeltung, ein kleiner Teufel der in gleicher Weise wächst, wie ihr Hass zu wuchern beginnt. Das Teufelchen lässt ihre Wünsche in Erfüllung gehen, doch am Ende kehren sich alle Wünsche gegen sie.
Nach einem Konzept von Osamu Tezuka schuf Yamamoto einen Klassiker des 1970er Animes, der auch heute noch wirkungsvoll bleibt. Die Animationen sind auf das notwendigste reduziert und der Film wird durch seine kunstvoll gemahlten Tableaus bestimmt, über die die Kamera wandert. Das Werk ist offensichtlich ein Kind seiner Zeit, was sich in der psychedelischen Bilderflut und der Musik manifestiert. Auch die feministisch politische Schlussbotschaft des Films wirkt aufgesetzt und aus heutiger Sicht geradezu an den Haaren herbeigezogen. Dennoch beeindruckt der Film durch seine kühne visuelle Kraft, seine hemmungslose Sexualität, die in ihrer grellen Ornamentik bei den Machern LSD Konsum vermuten lässt.
THE COVE – Die Bucht
Ric O’Berry/Louie Psihoyos (2008) 7/10
THE COVE gewann 2009 den Oscar als Bester Dokumentarfilm. Ganz in der Tradition amerikanischer „Doku-Propaganda“ wie BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE oder FAHRENHEIT 9/11 pfeift THE COVE auf einen objektiven Standpunkt und ergreift ganz offen Partei for the objectives it pursues. Let the former Flipper trainer O'Berry also pursuing an honorable cause and the protection of dolphins, this is most certainly, I feel at such unrestrained polemics carried forward some discomfort in the stomach. Dieser Klassiker des deutschen Antikriegsfilmes entstand gut 4 Jahre vor dem berühmteren DIE BRÜCKE und wurde mit einem Golden Globe ausgezeichnet. Zahlreiche bekannte deutsche Darsteller wirkten mit, unter anderem Bernhard Wicki, Maximilian Schell und Klaus Kinski. Besonders die wenigen gemeinsamen Szenen Maximilian Schells und von Kinski sind ein Höhepunkt des Films. Ein desillusionierter Soldat (Schell) hat keine Lust mehr zu kämpfen und streift seine Uniform ab. Der fanatische junge Offizier (Kinski) lässt den Deserteur per Standgericht erschießen. Werner Herzog nannte in seiner Doku MEIN GELIEBTER FEIND Kinskis beeindruckenden Auftritt, den er occupied by two sections, an important source of inspiration for his artistic life.
PROFOUND DESIRES OF THE GODS
Shohei Imamura (1968) 8 / 10
A Imamura with recurrent theme are closed communities of people, such as the small village in the remote island or Narayama Kurage in PROFOUND DESIRES OF THE GODS. Mein persönlicher Höhepunkt des Films sind aber die Auftritte des Inselbarden, der mit angeklebter Hakennase seine uralten Weisen zum Besten gibt.
